Looking for movies to watch this weekend? Here are some new additions to Netflix streaming and some older favorites you might want to check out.
Only God Forgives – At this point, if you don’t expect indie intensity from Ryan Gosling, you should. Only God Forgives is from the same director as the spectacular Drive, so if you didn’t like Drive, skip this. What Gosling lacks as far as dialogue in this film, he makes up for in violence. This has been on my gotta check out list for some time.
What Maisie Knew – Are you in need of an Alexander Skarsgard fix while True Blood is away? Try out this indie about a couple going through divorce. Reviews were pretty decent when it came out and its rating on Netflix is high.
My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – How about a complete change of pace? Ponies! For the kids or bronies in your life, see what your favorite Ponyville resident would look like as a person. Sort of. It’s an hour and 15 minutes so if you’re babysitting this weekend or want to catch up before Saturday’s all new MLP premiere, check it out.
Secret of the Wings – Disney’s Frozen comes out next week, which means it’s the perfect time to pregame with this cute Tinkerbell movie, also about an endless winter. How does Tinkerbell have a sister? Watch and find out.
Man on the Moon – So, the rumor that Andy Kaufman is still alive turned out to be a hoax. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy this great movie about his life, starring Jim Carrey.
Super – James Gunn (Dawn of the Dead from 2004, Slither, Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy) wrote and directed this awesome dark superhero movie starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler and Kevin Bacon. I highly recommend this one.
Hit and Run – Written, directed by and starring Dax Shepard, this underrated movie is a good Saturday night choice. Annie (Kristen Bell) thinks she knows her boyfriend (Dax Shepard) but it turns out he used to be a getaway driver for some pretty bad people who are looking for him. Also starring a totally different Bradley Cooper, this movie is funny and fast paced.
Can’t Hardly Wait – An older school favorite of mine with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ethan Embry and Seth Green. High school is over and now all that’s left is the big party. Look out for cameos from lesser known actors at the time like Sara Rue, Eric Balfour, Selma Blair and Jason Segel.
